Morris Garages built the first MG, the Super Sports, in 1924. Five years later, according to The New Encyclopedia, the English badge had so well established itself that Morris Garages became MG Car Company, Limited.
The MG Super Sports was an open two-seater using a 1.8-liter four-cylinder and set the pattern for nearly all of the company’s sports models through 1980. Four years after the Super Sports, the M-Type Midget with a four displacing less than one liter was unveiled and according to the Standard Catalog, the series of Midgets continued until World War II brought automobile production to a halt. One of those Midgets was the TB.
MG TC Arrives in America
MG had sold cars in the United States in limited numbers before the war, but the TB’s initial descendants were the models that triggered decades of success for the company in the American market. It began with the TC that appeared late in 1945 and was soon exported to the U.S. Like many cars of the immediate postwar years, its styling was straight out of the past.
