Warwick's past, present, and no doubt its future are interlinked with that of Warwick Castle. Spend a day exploring the Castle, its exhibitions, and its grounds that span the River Avon. But don't miss the many other attractions that the market town of Warwick has to offer.

Warwick Castle

Warwick Castle was originally built in 1068 by William the Conqueror. Since 1088 it has traditionally been owned by the Earls of Warwick. The most famous Earl, Richard Neville, also known as Warwick the Kingmaker, imprisoned Edward IV in the castle in the 15th century.

The Castle has been modified many times in it history. The facade facing the town was refortified during the Hundred Years War, leaving a spectacular example of 14th century military architecture. In the 1640s the Castle's fortifications were updated to prepare for the English Civil War, during which it survived a siege.
