Fallen Grace

Proving that it is possible for women’s fiction to be both light-hearted and have emotional depth, Ciara Geraghty’s debut novel Saving Grace (Hachette Books, 2009) is well-deserving of the positive reviews it has received.

Saving Grace

A brief prologue set in Spain in April 2004 describes a tragic scene where Grace O’Brien is almost drowned after swimming in the ocean at night. The novel then returns to the present, May 2005 in Ireland, where Grace wakes with a hangover in an unfamiliar bed next to Bernard O’Malley, the new IT guy at the insurance company where she works as a claims processor.

Struggling with an unwanted attraction to computer-geek Bernhard, Grace is caught between guilt at being unfaithful to her boyfriend Shane and later jealousy as she discovers that Bernard is the man her flatmate, Shane’s sister Caroline, has met and fallen in love with on a blind date.
