Mr. Big was an anomaly - a straight ahead hard rock band that came out of the pre-grunge late 80s but managed to survive through the 90s. Unlike many of their peers who feel out of relevance in the age of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains et al, Mr. Big lasted through the independent decade for one primary reason - all four of their members were superior at their respective instruments.

Despite conjuring memories of pre-prog 70s blues-based rock bands, including Bad Company and The Faces, Mr. Big certainly presented a unique sound.

Brief Band History

Though they featured bonafide shredders in Paul Gilbert (ex-Racer X) on guitar, Billy Sheehan (ex-Talas and David Lee Roth) on bass, and virtuoso Eric Martin on vocals, not to mention the syncopating drum calisthenics of Pat Torpey on drums, their songs were cemented in hook-laden verse-chorus-verse structures and were made to appeal to a wide rock audience.
